Chilean Earthquake 8.8
One of the largest earthquakes ever recorded tore apart houses, bridges, and highways in central Chile on 28th February 2010 and sent a tsunami racing halfway around the world. The head of the emergency agency said authorities believed at least 700 people were dead.
The magnitude 8.8 earthquake was felt as far away as Sao Paulo in Brazil, 1,800 miles to the east. The full extent of damage remained unclear as dozens of aftershocks - one nearly as powerful as Haiti's devastating Jan. 12 quake - shuddered across the Andean nation.
See footage of the 8.8 earthquake which struck Clile and set Tsunami alerts off across New Zealand.

Slow Down over Newmarket
If you're driving on Auckland's Newmarket Viaduct you need to slow down. Why? Because you're now driving through a live construction site....
The following safety message is a great example of a mitigation strategy (Reduction) in Emergency Management. We are proud to have contributed to this impressive project with training & consultancy services.
The Newmarket Viaduct (SH1 motorway flyover) is currently being replaced. To allow the New Zealand Transport Agency to safely keep all motorway lanes open in both directions while they carry out this significant upgrade, they require all motorists to respect the new, reduced speed limits and drive with extra caution - particularly at off-peak times.
